Newlyweds Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black should be celebrating the stunning wedding ceremony held last weekend, not being bothered with homophobic tweets from media outlets via social media.
Case and point, this tweet from the Daily Express about the couple’s ceremony. In the tweet that linked to the publication’s article, the word marry was in quotes, as if to signify air quotes and ultimately the validity of the couple’s marriage.
Perhaps it seems like nothing, but check out this headline from an article the publication put out about Stevie Wonder’s wedding.
Twitter users were quick to point out the difference.
Dear @Daily_Express , if you call Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black's wedding a 'wedding', can I call you a 'newspaper'? Just checking…..

So the Daily Express put air quotes around Tom Daley's marriage
Luckily I don't read that 'Newspaper'

Again, it is possible that this was an oversight. But at the same time, it’s a strange oversight. One that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. It’s that thoughtlessness and ignorance that is probably the reason behind their dismal engagement and following online though.
Regardless, the ceremony was a beautiful one, complete with a string quartet and a three course meal, including a huge cake. Daley even recited lines from Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. There were plenty of pictures on social media to document the occasion. The couple announced their engagement in 2015, just two years after Daley came out. Prior to being married, the two had been dating for four years. And while there were reports that Daley had engaged in an affair, it seems the couple has fixed any problems they may have been having, and appear stronger and more in love than ever before.
