He’s done everything from Star Trek to Star Wars, but now J.J. Abrams is taking on the world of drag, through the life of RuPaul!
Abrams’ production company Bad Robot is teaming up with World of Wonder to produce a show centering on RuPaul’s life in New York City during the 1980’s. The show will be a dramedy, with the episodes being a half-hour long. The World’s Most Famous Drag Queen herself will executive produce the show.
“RuPaul, a San Diego native who moved to Atlanta to study performing arts, settled in New York City where he became a popular fixture on the nightclub scene, a period in his life that has inspired the dramedy project,” Deadline reports.
Fresh off the most successful season of Drag Race yet with an Emmy in tow, it seems as if RuPaul’s quest for world domination is only getting started.
No news yet on who will star, write or direct, but we have to say we’re hella excited! And based on Abrams’ quality of work as a producer and even director (The Force Awakens, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Super 8… the list goes on) we’re pretty optimistic it’ll be worth watching. Although, the world of drag is lightyears away from space and sci-fi which Abrams is accustomed to…
Or is it?
